NSNR - New Stories for New Readers
Project description
New Stories for New Readers is a 30-month translation project developed by 5 small European publishers. The project will focus on translation, publication and promotion of youth literature translated from lesser-used languages. The consortium has selected 17 titles which will be published in 22 printed editions, while some titles will also be published in audio book format, e-book format and in sign language. All of the titles selected for publication are excellent, recent, and age appropriate, and they deal with a variety of themes (everyday topics, disabilities, illness and death, LGBTQ+, ecology, etc.). All of the books will be extensively promoted, through over 70 workshops led by moderators, 14 author and illustrator tours, and a comprehensive marketing strategy. The main goal of the project is to reach young readers who don't have access to literary events and new books as soon as they are published, and this will be achieved through several strategies: within Croatian, working with two experienced moderators to bring different workshops for specific age groups (plushie stories, writing workshops and translation workshops) into the most remote areas, organizing workshops for children with special needs (sensory stories), translating 6 picture books and 4 events into sign language, bringing authors and illustrators to a literary festival in a small town on an island, and securing transport for groups of schoolchildren to visit a major literary event in the capital city, where several authors from the project will also be present. For the partners' countries, the books translated through this project will be the first, or one of the few works of children's literature translated from Croatian into their languages. They will be extensively promoted through workshops with moderators, authors and illustrators.
