Transmedia stories of insularity - TRAST

TRAST
TRAST

Project description

TRAST is a participatory project aimed at creating opportunities to reassess and reshape assumptions about isolation and insular identity as both real and conceptual notions through specifically targeted cultural and artistic activities and various types of performative methodologies. The concept of insularity is approached not as a geographical term, but as one that represents a state of isolation, separation, or a lack of opportunities for creativity, productivity, self-esteem, and a sense of belonging to a community or society at large.

At its core, TRAST addresses pressing challenges in European societies, such as intercultural tensions, extremism and radicalization. By integrating digital transformation in culture, driven by new digital and communication technologies on one hand, and the potential of transmedia storytelling on the other, the project combats inequality, discrimination, deprivation, and socio-cultural exclusion of isolated groups and communities.

It explores innovative models of transmedia storytelling, promotes collaborative concepts such as open data, open sources, open archives, and resource sharing, as well as the adoption of archipelagic thinking as unique cultural formations. The goal of the initiative is to create both physical and digital infrastructure that fosters open social and cultural innovation and digital cultural collaboration.

In addition to thorough research of secondary cases and existing theories, the TRAST methodology includes the creation of original participatory transmedia works displayed in exhibition formats. Project partners bring expertise and established models of inclusive, artistic, and performative cultural activities, forming multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary teams that participate in developing a new model of inclusive exhibitions, methods, and tools for revitalizing and enriching culture and heritage through artistic, social, and cultural engagement, as well as multidisciplinary, cross-sectoral practices. They promote creative visions, contemporary and transmedia art and storytelling, and co-creative participation as a central activity for innovative design, exhibition development, and cultural development in general.
