Project description

The "Connected with Books" project features thirty outstanding literary works from various parts of Europe, primarily focusing on lesser-used languages, which will be published in the Slovenian, Polish, Estonian, North Macedonian, Croatian, Greek, and Italian markets. The selected works include picture books for young readers, YA books, and adult novels. The project showcases works by well-known European authors, award-winning picture books and children's books, as well as small literary gems that might not otherwise easily reach these markets.

Seven publishers from different countries have joined forces in this project to raise the profile of authors from 13 European countries. To increase the visibility of authors from smaller languages such as Slovenian, North Macedonian, Estonian, and others, both within Europe and internationally, publisher meetings will be organized, non-European publishers will be given residency opportunities, and the focus will be on selling rights and attending international book fairs. To further highlight the work of translators, the Slovenian Association of Literary Translators will host a one-week seminar for foreign translators wishing to translate from Slovenian into other languages.

The project also includes a strategy to reach a wider audience and raise awareness of the diversity of European culture among readers through various activities. As part of this strategy, authors (14 author tours) and translators (8 special evenings) will play a key role in presenting their works to a broader audience.
