Focus on Reading YOUTH 1
Focus on Reading YOUTH 2

Project description

FocusOnReading YOUTH (FOR YOUTH) project started with three simple questions: How can we encourage young people to read contemporary literature for adults? How to present European cultural diversity to them? and How to be sure that these titles and topics will appeal to them? We are delighted to say that we have the answers! FOR YOUTH project takes the best of contemporary European literary fiction that was recognized by French, Finnish, Norwegian and Dutch high-school students and presents it to their Croatian peers. FOR YOUTH covers two seasons of high-school activities during which we will present four novels to Croatian high schoolers in order to encourage critical and creative thinking and foster their passion for reading. We have established a specialist education team in order to give them an unforgettable reading experience. In addition, FOR YOUTH will also present authors through our well-known annual literary format - EUROPEA Festival. FOR YOUTH will also create a database of reading habits in order to establish a long-term practice of monitoring reading habits. This project will also support the needs of the translation sector by promoting awareness of the translator’s profession.

We are especially excited to present their work in schools in order to develop an appreciation for their skills and profession. FOR YOUTH project will promote multilingualism on the European literature market, address the alarming state of reading habits and critical thinking skills among the younger generations and develop a long-lasting relationship with two new audiences: high-school students and education specialists. By actively promoting this project we will encourage wider intergenerational public discussion about literature and its role in society.
400 students, 9 high schools, 8 authors, 5 translators, 4 languages, 2 seasons, one mission: to promote reading, critical thinking and great literature.
