Project description

Book in the Park is a collaboration project involving two publishers from Croatia (Ibis grafika) and Slovenia (Založba Malinc). Through the translation, publication, distribution and promotion of eighteen books, the goal of the project is to support the creation and circulation of quality literary works, especially the works translated form smaller languages, and make them available to a large audience in three European countries. 16 titles will be translated into Croatian, while one picture book will be translated into Spanish, and one middle grade novel into English.

These project activities will broaden the audience of both publishers inside and outside of their countries, as well as make the books easily accessible to all the target groups through tailored activities. The target groups of this project are children and young adults (4-14 years old), vulnerable groups, teachers, librarians, authors, illustrators, translators, publishers and literary agents. Through the publication of books in in three languages, and a sign language, in print, e-book and audio book format, and promotional activities focused on schools and the general public, the project will be presented in front of an audience of over a million people. The main promotional event will be the festival Book in the Park which will be organized in collaboration with a cultural centre in Zagreb. The international dimension will be reflected through the publication and promotion of two books in Spanish and English, and their presentation in Spain, Uruguay and the UK. Educational activities will present a significant section of the project, with over 30 school visits, 9 educational lectures for teachers, librarians, students and parents. Some events will be online, while those in person will be reported through digital channels. All digital content will be maintained after the project is finished, making the results of this project available indefinitely.
