Individual and Collective Histories – Translation of 10 books
Priorities
- Audience development
- Building capacity: Digital shift
Project description
The project Individual and Collective Histories – translation of 10 books is focused on acclaiming of the works that present the creative and fruitful dialog between the past and the present. Ten European novels of high literary quality provide different confrontations of the individual and historically acclaimed interpretations of certain social circumstances and their possibly neglected backgrounds. Besides the interests in memory and recollection, the books and the authors chosen for the project meet the need to promote lesser used languages in European context. The project includes 2 Polish authors (Magdalena Parys and Olga Tokarczuk), 1 Estonian (Meelis Friedenthal), 1 Swedish (Jonas Hassen Khemiri), 1 Macedonian (Goce Smilevski) and 1 Italian (Antonio Scurati). Other authors are from France (Gaëlle Josse and Mathias Énard), Germany (Ralf Rothman) and Spain (Javier Cercas). The project shall enable the readers to take the views on different social and cultural backgrounds of the events that are highly relevant to the contemporary understanding of the past.
