Project description

Naklada Ljevak's  Creative Europe – Literary Translation 2015-2016 project  consists of ten literary works by  ten European authors. The main criteria in making the selection were literary quality of the chosen works (and literary awards that confirm the highest quality of the chosen books), All the authors proposed in this project have been recognized in and out their own countries as most prominent or  most promissing authors. Guided by the mentioned criteria and paying attentiom to the representatives of lesser-used languages (Norwegian, Slovenian, Czech, Hungarian) we proposed the following books to be translated into Croatian: Afonso Cruz, A BONECA DE KOKOSCHKA: Carl Frode Tiller, INNSIRKLING; Cristian Crusat, BREVE TEORIA DEL VIAJE  Y EL DESIERTO; Emmanuelle Pagano, NOUONS-NOUS; Nataša Kramberger, NEBESA V ROBIDAH; Raquel Martinez Gomez, SOMBRAS DE UNICORNIO; Tomaš Zmeškal, ŽIVOTOPIS ČERNOBILEHO JEHNETE; Viktor Horvath, TÖRÖK TÜKOR; Noemi Szechi, KOMMUNISTA MONTE CRISTO; Paulus Hochgatter, DIE SUSSE DES LEBENS. 

Project objective

We were concentrated on the cultural and intellectual aspects of the proposed books with the aim of promoting the circulation of the European literary works by introducing to  the Croatian reading public other cultures and thereby helping them learn about common European heritage.

Gained experience

Implementation of the project and the introduction of these books and authors to Croatian reading public have helped us expand our usual target public to some new groups. The direct contact between readers and authors has enabled us to create new interest groups that have become our regular visitors and public. During presentation at the EUROPEA festival the dialogue between authors and public was encouraged, mainly  on literary subjects,  but also  about specific social issues -  such as multi ethnicity, racism, discrimination, nationalism…
